  • Niten Ichi Ryu Bokken - White Oak

    Made in Japan (Kyushu)

Rounded Spine | Flat butt | Kendogata Kissaki

    White Oak available

This Niten Ichi Bokken is made from woods from the southern islands of Kyushu (Japan), available in white oak, or Isu no Ki. This Bokken equips students of the Kenjutsu school "Niten Ichi Ryu", a school founded by Miyamoto Musashi. Intended for the practice with two swords, it is very thin, therefore light and elegant. It also suits practitioners of other styles seeking a Bokken to work on precision and speed.

This product is also available in the "Niten Ichi Ryu Daisho - Bokken & Shoto Set" with a 1000 YEN rebate in comparison to separate purchase.
We also offer the Shoto (Short) version as well as the legendary Bokken "Musashi" destined for suburi practice.

    • Choice of wood species: white oak
    • Available finish: Standard Finish or Seido Special Finish.
    • Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki

    Finish options:

In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane-varnished weapons and replaced the finish with "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.

Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal-based oil.

Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sandpaper), then we finish the weapon with high-quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantees excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).

    About Niten Ichi Ryu :

This Kenjutsu school, with complete name called Hyoto Niten Ichi Ryu, derives its great reputation from its founder, the most popular samurai, Miyamoto Musashi. Loosely translated into "school of the strategy of heaven and earth" its specificity is a broad catalogue of techniques with two swords, Bokken and Shoto (or Katana and Wakizashi). The two Bokken and Shoto of this school were created by Musashi himself and have therefore been used in this form for over 300 years. Also practised in this school are techniques with a long stick called Bo. Moreover there are several sub-groups existing, of which most are recognized as having a more or less direct filiation, as well as other Niten Ichi Ryu style inspirated schools like Saotome Sensei's practice with two swords in Aikido.

    Amazing piece of artcraft.

The definition and light handling makes it a fantastic training experience. The closest to a real Katana I ever experienced in a Bo Ken

    AWESOME

I want to thank the whole Seido team for the truly excellent service throughout the expedition. The package was shipped and delivered practically in two Italian working days. The bokken is fantastic and of a higher quality than all the ones I have had the opportunity to use.

    Superb Bokken Craftsmanship

Having purchased the shirakashi oil polished shoto, I felt that I had to purchase the bokken in order to practice Miyamoto Musashi's Niten Ichi-Ryu as it was meant to be experienced. As with the shoto, I am completely blown away at the level of skill that went into creating this piece of art and culture. The attention to detail is absolutely stunning. Not a single scratch or mark is to be found on this beautiful bokken. The thinness and elegance allows one to focus on precision and speed with one hand or both. Once again the artists employed by Seido have proven their works superiority to anything else you can find on the market. Given Seido's excellent quality of products and customer service, I'm absolutely certain they will be in business for another 20 years. Cheers to Mr.Delage and all those who have made it possible for the world to experience the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship!

    Niten Bokuto

Isu no ki isn’t the best for contact, as Niten bokuto are really meant. However, they are lovely and I will use them for embu and the like. I do, however, love and appreciate the care and detail with which Seido Shop handles its products/customers. Both bokuto and shoto are wonderfully made and will be treasured for a long time.

    Amazing craftsmanship

Not only is this the sturdiest bokken that I have ever owned, but also it feels the nicest. The attention to detail and balance of the weapon is absolutely amazing. This is the first bokken I've ever owned that feels like my katana and wakizashi as I swing them, the balance is the exact same and it feels great performing kata with these two. My katana and wakizashi were handcrafted to match the time period of Miyamoto Musashi's swords. This period would have been the Azuchi-Momoyama period going into the early Edo period. The practice of Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu is still taught today with bokken of this period. They are lighter compared to many bokken produced today with a noticeable weight near the tip. As I have said before this is the greatest booken I have ever owned and am very pleased. If you plan to practice Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu or any form of Enmei Ryu or even Shinkage-Ryu's Nito Yaburi, this bokken and shoto are a must have.

    Great

This is the second time I buy this bokken, to have a spare one just in case (the first one, bought one year ago and used often, is still doing great): I am really happy about it, the shape is beautiful and I love the oil finishing (not offered by many other sellers).
Also I ordered it (with other things) on monday and I received it in Italy on thursday!!
    Most recommended.
