Camellia Oil - Tsubaki abura
Made in Japan (Isu Islands)
Ingredient: 100% Tsubaki Oil
Size: 70 mL (2,3 oz) / 118 mL (3.9 oz) / 1 L (33.8 oz) / 1.8 L (60.9 oz)
This oil has been produced on the island of Toshima (Isu Shoto), off Tokyo, for more than a century. It is used by many Japanese wood workers as well as specialists in ancient blade (shinken) who are looking for a more stable oil than the Choji oil.
The 70 and 118 mL are conditionned in glass bottles. 1 and 1.8 L are conditionned in metal cans. Cans are not available in stock and require about a week before shipping.
Treatment with Camellia oil is recommended by the craftsmen who make our wooden weapons. The regular oiling is necessary for unvarnished weapons. It is recommended also for the maintenance of Iaito and Shinken.
Utilization on wooden weapons:
Once every 2 months in the wet season, 2 times per month during dry season. For a better preservation of your weapons, it is advisable to carefully rub them with a dry cloth after each use. When you apply the oil, clean the wood surface by rubbing vigorously with a dry cloth, then apply the oil in a thin layer directly with the hand. Allow to dry.
If your weapons are not painted it will not be necessary to sand, but if they are, sanding will help the wood to absorb more oil.
Note that this Camelia oil is initialy intended for skin and hair care. We've selected this oil for it's unmatched quality: 100% pure camelia oil, no additive, cold pressed, cosmetic grade, almost odorless, and halal certified.

Musashi's Special Oar Shaped Bokken - Red Oak
Miyamoto Musashi, a famous samurai of the 16th and 17th century had his last duel at the age of 28 against Kojiro Sasaki. It is said, that he defeated him with a wooden sword he carved out of a paddle of the rowing boat which brought him to the scene. Knowing that Sasaki had a sword of a length of 127cm (that you will also find on SeidoShop), Musashi used the same size. Having his Bokken hidden in the water until the very last moment, he floored Kojiro with one stroke. Based on the dimensions of the used weapon found on the scene, the craftsman recreated this Bokken with its uncommon specifications. Realistic reproduction, this model even comes with the marks from the nails used to attach the "oar" to the back of the boat. A hand-made engraving in black can be added.
We offer as well the Niten Ichi Ryu Bokken, developed by Miyamoto Musashi for his school of the two swords.
- Choice of wood species: red oak only
- Available finish: Urethane varnish or oil polished
- Engraving - Right side : 「四尺一寸九分有之」 4 shaku, 1 sun, 9 bu. (size of the weapon - about 127 cm)
- Engraving - Left side : 「於巌流島宮本武蔵使曳形」 (Bokuto used by Miyamoto Musashi on the Ganryu island). These kanji are written in ancient Japanese and cannot be read as such. However, its meaning is understandable.
- Manufacturing workshop: Horinouchi
About This Original Bokken (Suburito) :Truth be told, this is not really a Bokken. It is not used in any sword school. Rather it is a weapon for collection purpose or, because of its length and heaviness, suitable for strong suburi practice (In particular for schools using a long sword.) It is interesting to know that this Bokken has nothing in common with the model Niten Ichi Ryu which was also designed by Musashi for the practice of his style using two swords. This shows Musashi's flexibility and imagination in order to conquer, either by technique or strategy.
