Suburito & Furibo - Heavy Bokken

Average rating: 4.9/5 - 60 customer reviews

About Our Suburito & Furibo

The wooden weapons proposed by Seido are manufactured by one of the last four traditional workshops in the south of Japan, in the region of Miyakonojo (Kyushu), Horinouchi, Nidome, Matsuzaki and Aramaki (learn more about the workshops on our Artisans Presentation Page).
The Suburito is a significantly larger and heavier wooden training weapon than a classic Bokken. As the name suggests, it is used for Suburi or solo Kata practice. Practitioners can thus improve their Tenouchi (grasping of the sword), their Hasuji (angle whilst cutting/edge alignment) and their Tomei (the ability of stopping the sword) - just as the Samurai did at the time. Please note that the Suburito, unlike the Bokken, have no guard.

Appart from those proper Suburito and Furibo models, some Koryu Bokken can also make very good Suburito, such as the Jiki Shinkage Ryu Bokken (~1100 g) for example. So we recommend to check out the heaviest Koryu Bokken as well before making your choice.

All products displayed with the green tree icon fall under our forest preservation program. A flat amount is donated to the NGO MoreTrees for each piece ordered.
