Depth The stronger the laser, the deeper the engraving. Superficial is quite discreet, standard is deep enough to stand forever, deep can go up to 1 mm depth and creates a burning effect within the engraving.
Free transcriptions You can write your name in English and select a "Japanese" font, in which case we will take care of the transcription. Note that several translations exist for the same name and that we cannot accept claims. (Please use the text field to add a comment if the pronunciation is unusual. If you already have a translation, please attach a picture). We do not translate expressions or initials, only names or words. Requests for expressions translations will be ignored and refunded. Camellia Oil - Tsubaki abura

    Made in Japan (Isu Islands)

    Ingredient: 100% Tsubaki Oil

    Size: 70 mL (2,3 oz) / 118 mL (3.9 oz) / 1 L (33.8 oz) / 1.8 L (60.9 oz)

This oil has been produced on the island of Toshima (Isu Shoto), off Tokyo, for more than a century. It is used by many Japanese wood workers as well as specialists in ancient blade (shinken) who are looking for a more stable oil than the Choji oil.

The 70 and 118 mL are conditionned in glass bottles. 1 and 1.8 L are conditionned in metal cans. Cans are not available in stock and require about a week before shipping.

Treatment with Camellia oil is recommended by the craftsmen who make our wooden weapons. The regular oiling is necessary for unvarnished weapons. It is recommended also for the maintenance of Iaito and Shinken.

    Utilization on wooden weapons:
Once every 2 months in the wet season, 2 times per month during dry season. For a better preservation of your weapons, it is advisable to carefully rub them with a dry cloth after each use. When you apply the oil, clean the wood surface by rubbing vigorously with a dry cloth, then apply the oil in a thin layer directly with the hand. Allow to dry.
If your weapons are not painted it will not be necessary to sand, but if they are, sanding will help the wood to absorb more oil.

Note that this Camelia oil is initialy intended for skin and hair care. We've selected this oil for it's unmatched quality: 100% pure camelia oil, no additive, cold pressed, cosmetic grade, almost odorless, and halal certified.

    • Musashi's Special Oar Shaped Bokken - White Oak

Miyamoto Musashi, a famous samurai of the 16th and 17th century had his last duel at the age of 28 against Kojiro Sasaki. It is said, that he defeated him with a wooden sword he carved out of a paddle of the rowing boat which brought him to the scene. Knowing that Sasaki had a sword of a length of 127cm (that you will also find on SeidoShop), Musashi used the same size. Having his Bokken hidden in the water until the very last moment, he floored Kojiro with one stroke. Based on the dimensions of the used weapon found on the scene, the craftsman recreated this Bokken with its uncommon specifications. Realistic reproduction, this model even comes with the marks from the nails used to attach the "oar" to the back of the boat.

We offer as well the Niten Ichi Ryu Bokken, developed by Miyamoto Musashi for his school of the two swords.

      • Choice of wood species: white oak only
      • Available finish: Standard Finish or Seido Special Finish.
      • Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki

      Finish options:

In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane varnished weapons and replaced the finish by a "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.

Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal based oil.

Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sand paper), then we finish the weapon with high quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantee an excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).

About This Original Bokken (Suburito) :

Truth be told, this is not really a Bokken. It is not used in any sword school. Rather it is a weapon for collection purpose or, because of its length and heaviness, suitable for strong suburi practice (In particular for schools using a long sword.)  It is interesting to know that this Bokken has nothing in common with the model Niten Ichi Ryu which was also designed by Musashi for the practice of his style using two swords. This shows Musashi's flexibility and imagination in order to conquer, either by technique or strategy.

      5 star weapon

A beautiful object, super nice finish! don’t usually write reviews but the quality of this and the friendliness, speed, attention to detail, packaging, keeping me up to date, it’s all five star stuff in a world where many seem to have given up even striving for mediocre results. This experience of buying from Seido has truly made this Musashi bokken special. I am at awe and just want to say thanks again.

      Truly an outstanding product

I purchased this piece to aid in my training and am not surprised at the outstanding quality Seido delivers. The delivery speed was impressive. The well balanced weight of this piece makes for excellent controlled drills. Not only practical but aesthetic as well; the history behind the style of the piece, coupled with the superior material and craftsmanship make this piece a treasure. I am pleased to have added this piece to my training set!

      Solid, beautiful, a true masterpiece

First and foremost, the shipping was amazing and fast. Also seidoshop informed me that the delivery was made and had fantastic follow up service. The piece itself is beautiful. If you were on the fence then buy immediately. It is hard these days to come across true craftsmanship, and care from a company. I can say with all confidence that I found it here. The weight, the solid feel of the peice, and the balance is perfect. I bought this to help train with a longer heavier odachi that I own, this will definitely help me wield it better, as well as build some muscle in the process. It is light enough to be controlled but heavy enough to gain some stability and strength, which is the whole reason I bought it. The fact that it is similar to the oar Musashi used is just the cream on top! I really can't do justice to how easy it was from purchase to delivery of product, Seidoshop is great!!

      Secrets Manifested

Another splendid weapon and historical piece from Seido. Beautiful work, and thank you for the prompt delivery. My first impression upon taking this in hand was the realization of how powerful Musashi had to have been to wield such a piece easily. Simply to hold it or work with it adds an additional dimension to history and, indeed, brings the history to life as only a fine and accurate replica could. It also brought to mind Musashi's purported final words to Sasaki Kojiro upon his objection to Musashi's choice of wood: "I will raise my wooden sword and manifest its secrets." As advertised, excellent for suburi as well. It will make you work. It also served well as the centerpiece/object lesson for our service at the Japanese Baptist Church of North Texas last Sunday, as with its size and beautiful craftsmanship it was sure to be noticed, observed and remembered. Thank you for the great work and attention to detail, and for helping to keep both the history and the tradition alive.

A quality, heavy Bokuto for Suburi

This shipped very quickly to the US! The white oak is very strong compared to red oak items (this only comes in white oak as of this writing), and though such isn’t needed for Suburi, this has a solid build. The varnish is perfect and it rests very well in my hands. It’s heavier than I thought it would be. Ultimately, I am happy with my purchase, and would recommend this to anyone (especially Niten students).

Vraiment parfait !

Si tout était comme Budo Export ;-) ...
