    Camellia Oil - Tsubaki abura

    Made in Japan (Isu Islands)

    Ingredient: 100% Tsubaki Oil

    Size: 70 mL (2,3 oz) / 118 mL (3.9 oz) / 1 L (33.8 oz) / 1.8 L (60.9 oz)

This oil has been produced on the island of Toshima (Isu Shoto), off Tokyo, for more than a century. It is used by many Japanese wood workers as well as specialists in ancient blade (shinken) who are looking for a more stable oil than the Choji oil.

The 70 and 118 mL are conditionned in glass bottles. 1 and 1.8 L are conditionned in metal cans. Cans are not available in stock and require about a week before shipping.

Treatment with Camellia oil is recommended by the craftsmen who make our wooden weapons. The regular oiling is necessary for unvarnished weapons. It is recommended also for the maintenance of Iaito and Shinken.

    Utilization on wooden weapons:
Once every 2 months in the wet season, 2 times per month during dry season. For a better preservation of your weapons, it is advisable to carefully rub them with a dry cloth after each use. When you apply the oil, clean the wood surface by rubbing vigorously with a dry cloth, then apply the oil in a thin layer directly with the hand. Allow to dry.
If your weapons are not painted it will not be necessary to sand, but if they are, sanding will help the wood to absorb more oil.

Note that this Camelia oil is initialy intended for skin and hair care. We've selected this oil for it's unmatched quality: 100% pure camelia oil, no additive, cold pressed, cosmetic grade, almost odorless, and halal certified.

    • Tsubanashi Deluxe Bokken 101.5 cm - Sunuke or Tsubaki

      Made in Japan (Kyushu)
Chevroned Spine | Rounded butt | Long Kissaki | Tsubanashi
Sunuke and Tsubaki (Camellia japonica) available

This Tsubanashi Bokken features are almost identical to that of red and white oak models, they are available in Sunuke and wood Tsubaki (Camellia japonica). These two woods, albeit having radically opposed technical characteristics, are two great classics of Japanese wood crafting. Not as luxurious as ebony, these are excellent choices for intermediate practitioners wishing to acquire a bokken that has the qualities of a true work of art. Hand made by master Nidome, these models undergo a very strict wood selection and special attention is paid to finishes.

The design developed by Seido remains resolutely classic in its general form with the deletion of the line between tsuka and blade to allow a grip on a much larger portion of the bokken (but prohibiting the use of a tsuba). This finish will satisfy aikido practitioners who do not use tsuba and who are usually bothered by the line when the distance between the hands is important. This model is also available in red and white oak, and isu no ki.

Sunuke wood is heavy and it is used for bokken used for power work while Tsubaki is a lighter wood used for work in finesse and precision. These bokken will also be great gifts for Dan promotions.
While Camellia can be put into all hands safely, Sunuke is particularly heavy and its use must be made with caution. Sunuke will be reserved for power to work from experienced practitioners and it is not recommended for beginners.

In addition, the Tsubanashi model should only be recommended to practitioners who do not use a tsuba (guard).

Due to the quota established by the Japanese government, these woods are available in limited quantities. Therefore, in case of stock shortage, a manufacturing delay of 5 to 6 weeks will be expected to allow restocking.

      • Choice of wood species: Sunuke or Tsubaki (camellia japonica)
      • Finish: non varnished (camellia oil polish).
      • Manufacturing workshop: Nidome / Aramaki for all models

All our high-end bokken are offered non varnished (camellia oil polish finish). Note that unvarnished weapons are much more pleasant to the touch as well as usage.
Unvarnished weapons are more ecologically-friendly, but they requires regular (monthly) maintenance with oil (camellia or wood maintenance oil) and they can only be made from the finest, Japanese quality woods. Given the need for maintenance of these weapons, our stocks are limited. Also, since the craftsmen must select the best wood possible to manufacture these weapons, the processing time is longer than for varnished weapons. If engraved, out of stock, or made to order, the shipping time can take up to 6 weeks in case of shortage.
