Camellia Oil - Tsubaki abura
Made in Japan (Isu Islands)
Ingredient: 100% Tsubaki Oil
Size: 70 mL (2,3 oz) / 118 mL (3.9 oz) / 1 L (33.8 oz) / 1.8 L (60.9 oz)
This oil has been produced on the island of Toshima (Isu Shoto), off Tokyo, for more than a century. It is used by many Japanese wood workers as well as specialists in ancient blade (shinken) who are looking for a more stable oil than the Choji oil.
The 70 and 118 mL are conditionned in glass bottles. 1 and 1.8 L are conditionned in metal cans. Cans are not available in stock and require about a week before shipping.
Treatment with Camellia oil is recommended by the craftsmen who make our wooden weapons. The regular oiling is necessary for unvarnished weapons. It is recommended also for the maintenance of Iaito and Shinken.
Utilization on wooden weapons:
Once every 2 months in the wet season, 2 times per month during dry season. For a better preservation of your weapons, it is advisable to carefully rub them with a dry cloth after each use. When you apply the oil, clean the wood surface by rubbing vigorously with a dry cloth, then apply the oil in a thin layer directly with the hand. Allow to dry.
If your weapons are not painted it will not be necessary to sand, but if they are, sanding will help the wood to absorb more oil.
Note that this Camelia oil is initialy intended for skin and hair care. We've selected this oil for it's unmatched quality: 100% pure camelia oil, no additive, cold pressed, cosmetic grade, almost odorless, and halal certified.

Tsubanashi Deluxe Bokken 101.5 cm Tsubaki
Made in Japan (Kyushu)
Chevroned Spine | Rounded butt | Long Kissaki | Tsubanashi
Tsubaki (Camellia japonica)
This Tsubanashi Bokken features are almost identical to that of red and white oak models, available in Tsubaki wood (Camellia japonica). Tsubaki features outstanding characteristics and is a classic of Japanese wood crafting. Not as luxurious as ebony, this timber is an excellent choice for intermediate practitioners wishing to acquire a bokken that features the qualities of a true work of art. Hand made by master Aramaki, this model undergoes a very strict wood selection. Special attention is paid to the finish.
The design developed by Seido remains resolutely classic in its general form with the deletion of the line between tsuka (handle) and blade to allow a grip on a much larger portion of the bokken. It makes it though impossible to use a tsuba (guard). This elegant finish will satisfy Aikido practitioners who do not use tsuba and who are usually bothered by that line when the distance between the hands is important. This model is also available in red and white oak.
Tsubaki is a lighter wood used for work on finesse and precision. This bokken also makes a great gift for Dan promotions.
In addition, the Tsubanashi model should only be recommended to practitioners who do not use a tsuba (guard).
Due to the quota established by the Japanese government, this exotic wood is available in limited quantities. Therefore, in case of a stock shortage, a manufacturing delay of 5 to 6 weeks will be expected to allow restocking.
- Choice of wood species: Tsubaki (camellia japonica)
- Finish: non varnished (camellia oil polish).
- Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki
All our high-end bokken are offered non varnished (camellia oil polish finish). Note that unvarnished weapons are much more pleasant to the touch as well as usage.
Unvarnished weapons are more ecologically-friendly, but they require regular (monthly) maintenance with oil (camellia or wood maintenance oil) and they can only be made from the finest, Japanese quality woods. Given the need for maintenance of these weapons, our stocks are limited. Also, since the craftsmen must select the best wood possible to manufacture these weapons, the processing time is longer than for varnished weapons. If engraved, out of stock, or made to order, the shipping time can take up to 6 weeks in case of shortage.Tsubanashi Deluxe Bokken Specifications Wood Tsubaki (camellia japonica) Weight 450 g ~ 500 g Full length 101.5 cm Blade length 75.5 cm Tsuka length 26 cm Tsuka diameter 37 x 26 mm Mine Kenmine (chevroned spine) Tsuka shape Hanmaru (rounded butt) Kissaki Tokudaikissaki (long) (~4 cm) Special Tsubanashi type (without tsuba demarcation line for tsuba). *Due to the hand-made manufacturing, color, and weight may vary slightly from one weapon to another
