Deluxe Shoto 54.5 cm - Shima Kokutan
Made in Japan (Kyushu)
Chevroned Spine | Rounded butt | Long Kissaki
Shima kokutan (Asian ebony)These Shoto available in asian (East Asia) ebony have a very extensive finish: a hanmaru tsukagashi (rounded), a kenmine upper edge, and an elongated daikissaki tip. Only the best woods are selected, and particular attention is paid to the location and shape of nodes.
Shima Kokutan is a very hard wood; it absorbs shocks relatively poorly and is not advised for practice with contact.
These shoto will also make excellent gifts following the successful passing of an exam. This model is offered in classic deluxe shape (presenting a line between the tsuka and the blade).
- Choice of wood species: Shima Kokutan (asian ebony).
- Finish: Non-varnished (camelia oil polish).
- Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki
Please note that due to the rarity of the wood and the limited release of this product, engravings are not available.
All our high-end bokken are offered non-varnished (camellia oil polish finish). Note that unvarnished weapons are much more pleasant to the touch as well as to use
Unvarnished weapons are more ecologically-friendly, but they require regular (monthly) maintenance with oil (camellia or wood maintenance oil) and they can only be made from the finest, Japanese quality woods. Given the need for maintenance of these weapons, our stocks are limited.Deluxe Shoto Ebony Specifications Wood Shima Kokutan Weight 380 ~ 400 g Full length 54.5 cm Blade length 40.5 cm Tsuka length 14 cm Tsuka diameter 37 x 28 mm Mine Kenmine (chevroned spine) Tsuka shape Hanmaru (rounded butt) Kissaki Daikissaki (long) (~3 cm) Wood is a living material, and therefore weight and color vary from one weapon to another.
