No Black Friday - Seido is closed - We say No to mass consumerism
No orders until Monday, December 1st, 5 p.m. JST
Dear Budoka,
This year, we once again wish to reaffirm our commitment to the spirit of Budo and our belief in mindful, ethical practice. We have always strived to conduct our business in a way that is meaningful and aligned with our humanitarian values. For this reason, Black Friday does not reflect who we are or what we stand for, in fact, it stands in contrast to our principles.
We always strive to have a positive impact on our community and, to the extent we are able, on humanity as a whole. Rather than following the typical Black Friday philosophy, we have sought to reinterpret it through humanitarian and charitable initiatives, such as our "Green Friday" events and other Black Friday initiatives over the years, which included donations to humanitarian organizations. Our charity program began on Black Friday in 2018, and since then we have supported organizations such as Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, moreTrees, and Friends of the Earth Japan as these organizations reflect the values we hold as human beings.
While we had hoped that mass consumerism would slow down in response to the numerous environmental and humanitarian crises we face daily, the trend seems to be accelerating in the opposite direction. Year after year, this can leave us feeling helpless and frustrated, but we can still try to put on the brakes!
For the past two years, we have chosen to close our shop as a sign of our commitment to our values, staying true to our Budo ethics, and focusing on doing what is right rather than chasing mere profit.
And that is why, as we have done for the past two years, we have chosen to stay on the same path, and we will fully close Seido during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday Events.
From Friday, November 28th, 10 a.m. JST until Monday, December 1st, 5 p.m. JST, it will not be possible to place orders on our website.
We know this action alone won't change the world, and that it is largely symbolic, but once again, it stands as a clear expression of what we believe in.
As always, we hope to offer a chance to reflect on whether the items you're thinking of buying during Black Friday and Cyber Monday are genuinely needed. The same principle applies to any purchase you make with us in the future: if you don’t truly need it, we'll be the last to suggest it.
Your trust and support over the years have always made a difference, and thanks to you, we are once again able to take a leap, closing for four days and setting aside the profits we could have earned.
The entire team at SeidoShop thanks you for being here alongside us. Let’s strive to make a difference together!
