Chijimi Cotton Samue - Grey & Blue
Made in Japan
Material: 100% Cotton
Color: Grey and Blue
Size: M, L, LL
Traditional premium Samue made in Japan from 100% Chijimi cotton. Available in 2 colors and 3 sizes. Elastic waist band, pockets on each side of the pants and the left side of the jacket, and drawstrings at the ankles.
Solid, well-cut, this is a high quality Samue model that will delight all enthusiasts of Japanese tradition, as well those seeking an original homewear or leisure outfit for a family outing at the weekend, or even Shiatsu practitioners.
The Chijimi fabric has been made in Takashima (Shiga prefecture) for more than 200 years. The textile is woven using wefts, forming a resistant ply, and its uneven (wavy or granular) surface called Shibo is created by the bleaching process utilizing the untwisting force of these wefts. The irregular pattern of the Shibo provides the textile with a constantly dry, fresh touch and stretchability.
This type of fabric well absorbs sweat while staying breathable, ideal for the Japanese hot and humid summer climate.
The Samue is a garment that has many uses. Traditionally worn by monks in Zen Buddhist temples, artists, or even doctors, it is also widely worn as homewear, in the Ryokan (traditional hotel), or at the Onsen (hot spring). It is also found among players of the original Zen instrument, the Shakuhachi (traditional flute). In recent years, the wearing of Samue became more popular as a particularly comfortable informal clothing. Just like Jinbei, Samue are worn without a belt.
