Minosaka Kogatana
A Kogatana (小刀), or "small sword" in English is a small knife designed to be fitted with a Kozuka (handle). The Kogatana is a small utility knife that fits into a pocket on the Saya.

Contrary to Jisei models, the Minosaka Kogatana has a Tsuka that is cut in the metal block itself and therefore doesn't require a Kozuka. This Kogatana is not sharpen (but can be). This model is a replica of a model that dates from the Edo period and stored in a museum.

The Tsuka is engraved with the following Kanji: 福運来勇奮, which means: "good fortune comes to the braves" (Chinese proverb).

The Kogatana is one of the element that explains that Tsuba have small holes on either or both sides. See product pictures for details on how the Kogatana fits on a Saya.

Minosaka kogatana without kozuka
Nice quality product with only a few minor visible imperfections. Also, wish it had a bit thinner blade or a more pronounced edge. Shipping via FedEx took just three work days from Japan to Finland and they even took care of the customs declaration for a small fee, making things very easy for me. Overall a very positive experience for my first, but certainly not the last, purchase from SeidoShop.

Ordered the Minosaka Kogatana and received it within a week. Service and communication is top notch. Kogatana is absolutely well made and designed. Fit my tsuba and saya perfectly. I look forward to working with Seido more.

Minosaka kogatana
Seidoshop has again packed and shipped their products in a safe and professional manner.
Besides the individual kogatana that I received which was a little shorter than 200mm (197mm), measurements in description are correct. As does the blade itself that is al through 3mm thick which makes for a clumsy knife (if one would use it as such) even with an edge. One would need a professional (equipment) to grind some of the metal away from the blade to give it a more balanced feel to it.
Aside from al above; overall a very fine piece of koshirae from seido with a motivational inscription for further keiko.

For compliance reasons, reviews placed in French and Japanese and imported here on February 2024 do not display as 'verified'.
When importing Japanese reviews, the impossibility to automatically determine the presence of a familly name forced us to label all Japanese reviews as 'anonymous' (Familly names in roman characters have been filtered out).
