[Fuh-mi] Kakejiku - Aiki Calligraphy

This hanging scroll features the powerful calligraphy of the term 合氣 (Aiki), a foundational concept in Japanese martial arts that expresses the principle of harmonizing with, rather than opposing, an opponent’s energy.

“Ai” (合) means to join, to meet, or to harmonize.
“Ki” (氣) refers to inner energy, spirit, or intention.
Together, they suggest an art not based on brute strength, but on blending with movement, timing, and will.

This Kakejiku is a "Maruhyoso Kakejiku": It is made in Japan with high-quality kifune donsu. The honshi is made of high-grade gasen-shi, a traditional paper made of natural fibers used primarily for Sumi-e (brush painting) and calligraphy.
