Akagashi Kama (Red Oak)
Made in Japan
Composition: Japanese red oak
Length: 43.5 cm (blade: 19 cm)
Weight: ~300 g
The 'Kama' was originally a farming tool, a short sickle, that was adapted by farmers and used as a weapon. It is still seen in Karate and Okinawan (Ryukyu) Kobudo and is often handled as pair, with one in each hand. Although this model is designed for Japanese martial arts, the Kama is a very common weapon in many martial arts in Asia and its origin goes far back. It is believed to have been introduced to Okinawa by Chinese travelers.
This model is made of 2 assembled pieces of red oak and is sold by unit.
We also offer its enhanced version with a chain and a counterweight, the Kusarigama.
