From 4 workshops in 2019, the wooden weapon industry in Japan is now reduced to one workshop at full capacity and one workshop with reduced capacity. For this reason, all orders for custom-made items have a production time of about 5 months without guarantees. We will contact you if the order is delayed, but please know that delays are now very common for those orders. Feel free to read our blog article for more information on the situation.Product Information & Size Chart

This is the model we would recommend for Jukendo and Aikido practitioners who would like to do some technical research on their techniques. The Su Yari, (basic, standard spear) in Japanese, features one of the oldest and most simple shapes, commonly used in ancient Japan. It imitates a classic straight double edged blade on a long shaft.
Sojutsu, the art of the spear, is often part of a larger curriculum in old Koryu. However, the shape and length of the spear can vary greatly depending on the school, or the type of practice.
The Su Yari version is still in use in Saburi Ryu Sojutsu (YouTube) and Owarikan Ryu Sojutsu (YouTube). Please note that because the Yari does not fit into our engraving machine, this model cannot be engraved.

Finish options:
In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane varnished weapons and replaced the finish by a "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.
Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal based oil.Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sand paper), then we finish the weapon with high quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantee an excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).Su Yari - Weight Wood Ichiikashi (Red Oak) 6 Shaku ~1,000 g 7 Shaku ~1,150 g 8 Shaku ~1,300 g 9 Shaku ~1,500 g * Weapons are all handmade, therefore color and weight vary from one weapon to another.
