This made in Japan Menuki features big Koi carps. Closely tied to Japan's national identity, the koi carp is highly respected and very symbolic. It signifies perseverance and strength, due to its tendency to swim upstream. Nowadays, it is often considered a symbol of luck, prosperity, and good fortune. The "koinobori" (raising Koi flags), a tradition that celebrates children's day (national holiday) is widely celebrated in Japan by almost all families. Koi flags are raised outside houses in honor of children for a good future and in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong.
