Kamakiri Menuki - M007
This made in Japan Menuki features praying mantis. In Japanese folklore, the Kamakiri, or praying mantis in English, has a dual meaning, as a symbol of great courage and fearlessness, but also cruelty and merciless. Some ancient supersition says that seeing a praying mantis could be a sign of imminent death. It is interesting to note that the Kamakiri can turn its head 180°, and therefore symbolizes the ability to cover both front and back lines in battle. All this explains quite well its popularity on sword designs.
