Houou Menuki - M020
This made in Japan Menuki features Mythical firebird goddess (Japanese Pheonix). Its body symbolizes the celestial bodies: the head is the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet are the earth, and the tail is the planets. It is sometimes said that its color represents the Confucianist virtues: benevolence (charity), honesty, knowledge, faithfulness, and correct behavior. It mainly symbolizes fire, the sun, justice, obedience, and fidelity. It is interesting to note that it is the symbol of the Byodo-in temple (Kyoto) and it appears as a symbol of this temple on the back of today's 10,000 YEN bills.
