Cotton Cover for Tanto

Made in Japan

Material: Cotton

Length: 55 cm | Weight: 35 g

Available color: brown only

Solid cotton cover for tanto transport and protection. This model can accommodate a standard 30 cm tanto but also longer models such as the 40 cm model and the aluminum alloy model from Minosaka Iaito workshop. Synthetic leather reinforcements are fitted at the bottom of the cover. With a tie (also made from the same cotton fabric) sewn onto the upper part, the cover can easily be tied up. The metal finish of the strap give it a classy touch.

Product Information & Size Chart

  • Iaito Tanto Higo Koshirae

    Material: Zinc/Aluminium reinforced alloy
Full Length: 45.5 cm | Blade Length: 32.5 cm | Tsuba length: 12.5 cm | Length with saya: 47.5 cm
    Weight without saya: ~380 g | Weight with saya: ~510 g
Saya: magnolia wood, genuine urushi lacquer.

This "Higo Koshirae Tanto" is a high-end Tanto-sized Iaito made by the Minosaka workshop with the same construction as their Higo Koshirae Iaito and Higo Koshirae Wakizashi.
The blade is made of reinforced aluminum, with a groove to match the construction of the Higo Koshirae Iaito and it features a classic Suguha Hamon.

The Koshirae is composed of a Tetsukon cotton sageo and cotton Tsukaito, gold inlay fuchi/kashira, a small hamidashi Tsuba, Shonai style brass Habaki and copper Seppa, Hitsuji (lamb) Menuki, magnificent Inden lacquer with a Kaeshitsuno (back hook to secure the Tanto in the Obi) on the Saya.

The construction is sturdy, and although it doesn't cut, the Kissaki is very sharp and the blade is solid, which makes this product relatively dangerous. It is the longest Tanto of our catalog, a length consistent with the average Tanto length of the early Edo period.
This is an ideal model for realistic tanto-dori training, and of course, a perfect maezashi for Iai training.

Maintenance: Clean the blade with a dry cloth. Oiling the blade is not necessary thanks to the stainless aluminum alloy, but it can nourish the wood of the saya. Never use Uchiko (polishing powder), it might damage the blade.

    Disclaimer: Non-Returnable Item
