Product Information & Size Chart

  • Triptych Kakejiku - "Makoto" (sincerity, faithfulness, honesty) Calligraphies -

Material: Ink on 3 "shiro-nuki" (blank) kakejiku
Calligraphy size (total): 190 cm x 129 cm
Calligraphy size (each): 190 cm x 43 cm
Calligraphy size (each paper): 133 cm x 32.5 cm

Traditionally, Kakejiku (hanging scrolls) are created after the calligraphy is brushed, in order to both protect and display the artwork. There are some times however when kakejiku are created independently and left blank, so calligraphers can work in a more modern way, such as writing on the silk frame, etc. Those kakejiku are called "shironuki".
In this daring modern composition, the word "Makoto" spreads across 3 Shironuki kakejiku. Makoto is one of the samurai's cardinal virtue. It means sincerity; faithfulness; honesty; fidelity and constancy. The Kanji "Makoto" was famously used by the Shinsengumi on their battle standards, to denote that they would remain faithful to their oaths until the end

Fuh-mi has studied calligraphy, poetry, and ikebana (Japanese floral art) since childhood. She is a Japanese calligrapher who mainly works in the field of contemporary art.
She claims a style freed from tradition and does not hesitate to offer extremely colorful pop works or performed vertically to obtain dripping effects close to street art.
She has agreed to return to a more classic calligraphy for this special collaboration with Seido, while retaining certain freedom in the balance of lines and composition.

These Kakejiku are "Maruhyoso Kakejiku": they are made of 4 sections the top section called "Ten" (Heaven in English), the bottom section called Chi (Earth in English), and the two pillars on the right and left sides supporting the Heaven. Because Kakejimu were observed from a Seiza position, providing perspective, the Heaven part is longer than the Earth part, for balance.
