Enzan no Metsuke is a fundamental concept of martial arts. In combat, the gaze should be far beyond the opponent, as if contemplating the silhouette of a mountain on the horizon. According to Miyamoto Musashi, “perceiving” is on a higher level than “seeing”. By fixing his gaze in the distance, we can then perceive the whole fight: the enemy, but also the environment, etc. If, on the contrary, we focus only on the adversary, we only see part of the situation, which in many cases can prove fatal.
