Last words of Miyamoto Musashi in his famous strategy treatise "Heiho 35 Kajo", Ban Ri Ikku synthesizes in four characters not only the essence of the martial technique but also the essence of the warrior's life. Even though man imagines and masters a myriad of fighting techniques, these can only end up smashing into, and fading away from, spontaneous action springing from Mushin, the supreme state of mind.
Likewise, the warrior may learn and store a myriad of techniques during his life, they are doomed to disappear upon his death. Even transmitted to the next generation, they necessarily undergo alterations that inexorably erase the exploits of yesteryear. Each calligraphy is signed by the artist's seal.
